Brad and Jennifer Moranz present “Blast from the Past – a ‘60s & ‘70s Rock and Roll Musical.” Written by Brad Moranz, the story can best be described as “Little Shop of Horrors” meets “Superman” meets “Field of Dreams” meets “Back to the Future.” This original show features some of the biggest hit songs from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
It all takes place at oldies record store Blast from the Past, which is run by a middle-aged hippie couple (played by Brad and Jennifer Moranz) and their daughter, Suzie. When a freak meteor storm bombards the record store, Suzie is exposed to the radiation as are all the records in the store and they come to life.
Before you know it, Tom Jones and Frankie Valle are competing for Suzie’s love, Austin Powers is hitting on Mom, and Dad has joined the Village People. And Elvis just wants people to stay off his blue suede shoes.
When the bank calls to foreclose on the mortgage to the store, Mom rushes to the kitchen to bake a cake, leaving only Suzie to figure out a way to save the store.
With help from a white-haired Professor (think Doc Brown from “Back to the Future”), they plan a concert to raise money using the singers who have come to life. But, when the effects of the meteors suddenly wear off, all the singers disappear, vanishing into the corn field. Just when it looks like all hope is lost, a miracle happens in Act 2.
